Code Book Manager

The Code Book Manager allows you to organize and manage your tagging system effectively within your project. It’s a centralized space to create, upload, edit, or download tag groups and individual tags to maintain consistent terminology across your team’s analysis.

Use the Code Book Manager to structure your tagging process by grouping similar tags and maintaining a clear definition for each. This helps ensure consistent coding practices across collaborators and projects.

You can:

Create and organize tags into groups.

Upload a ready-to-use codebook using a template.

Download your existing tags for offline use or reference.

Edit tag names, descriptions, and groups.

Upload Code Book

To quickly add multiple tags, use the Upload Codebook feature.

Navigate to Code Book Manager.

Click on Upload Codebook.

Drag and drop your file or click Choose File to upload from your computer.

Use the provided Excel template to ensure your format matches the required structure.

Create or Edit Tags

You can manually add new tags or edit directly within the interface.

To add a tag:

Hover over a group and click + Add Tag.

Enter the tag name and description.

To edit or delete a tag/group:

Use the three-dot menu beside the tag group or tag.

Choose Edit Group, Add Tag, or Delete Group.

Note: You can only delete an empty tag group.

Download Tags

To export all tags and groups, use the Download button at the top of the Code Book Manager. This downloads your tag structure in Microsoft Word, PDF, CSV and Excel, format for sharing, documentation, or backup purposes.

⚠️ Note: Users can choose to have the tag description or not.

Search Tags

Use the search bar to quickly find tags by name. This is useful for large datasets with many tags.

Expand All and Collapse All

Use 'Expand All' to open all tag groups and 'Collapse All' to close them.

Tag-Level Details

 Each tag displays:

  • Tag label with color

  • Description (truncated in view)

  • A comment icon with the number of notes

  • Usage count (how many times the tag was applied)

View Verbatim Panel

Click on the comment icon next to the tag to open a panel on the right-hand side.

 The right panel displays:

  • Tag Name & Group at the top

  • Number of Verbatims linked (e.g., "2 Verbatims")

  • Filenames

  • The quote tagged with this label

  • Speaker label 

  • Created By – Indicates the account used to create tags.

  • Created Date

This flexibility helps you maintain a clean and logical structure for your coding process, improving both collaboration and readability.

Bulk Actions for Tags

When you select a single or multiple tags, a set of actions becomes available:

Move

To relocate selected tags to a different group:

Click the Move option from the bulk action bar.

In the Move Tags dialog:

  • Select an existing group from the dropdown.

  • Or, create a new group by checking the "Create new group" option.

Click Move to confirm.

Merge

To consolidate multiple similar tags into one:

Click the Merge option from the bulk action bar.

In the Merge Tags dialog:

  • Selected tags are displayed at the top.

  • Search and select the target tag you want to merge the rest into.

Click Merge to finalize.

Delete

Permanently remove all selected tags from the project.

  • Click Delete from the bulk action menu.

  • Confirm your action in the popup dialog.

Cancel

Exit bulk selection mode and deselect all tags.
