Understanding the Challenge
When a team of public health researchers set out to explore social determinants of health (SDOH) among minority communities, they knew the voices they’d hear would be powerful but also complex.
The study brought together over 64 participants across multiple phases:
Phase 1:
14 Hispanic/Latino participants
12 African American participants
Phase 2:
11 Puerto Rican Hispanic/Latino participants
12 African American participants
2 additional African American focus groups (7 and 8 participants)
These weren’t just numbers. Each participant carried stories of migration, resilience, systemic inequities, and cultural traditions shaping their health. Some spoke in English, others in Spanish, and all required careful, accurate representation.
The Roadblocks Researchers Faced
How ANT Became an Extended Hand
This is where ANT stepped in, , not just as a service provider, but as a true research partner.
Precise, Culturally Sensitive Transcription
We delivered HIPAA compliant verbatim transcripts, ensuring accuracy down to the smallest detail. Spanish language interviews were transcribed and translated, with cultural expressions preserved.
Smarter Data Management
We organized transcripts into structured, searchable formats and coded responses for easy comparison across participant groups.
Deep Dive Analysis Support
Beyond transcription, we assisted with thematic analysis, helping the research team identify patterns such as:
How African American participants emphasized structural challenges (housing, healthcare access, segregation).
How Hispanic/Latino participants often highlighted emotional well being, family support, and cultural adjustment.
Shared struggles with economic hardship, racism, and barriers to inclusion.
Time Saved, Insights Strengthened
By handling transcription, translation, coding, and preliminary analysis, we freed researchers to focus on interpreting insights, shaping recommendations, and telling the community’s story.
